Biography

With forty-five years of experience in the United States District Courts, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and all levels of New York State Courts, Robert G. Wells is a seasoned federal and state criminal defense jury trial lawyer. Trained at Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyers College, he brings a wealth of experience to his practice. A past President of the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Robert is actively involved in the legal community. He currently serves on the NYSACDL Board of Directors and the NYSACDL Strike Force, defending attacks against other criminal defense trial attorneys.

Robert has shared his knowledge as an instructor for the United States Courts, teaching lawyers in various cities, including San Francisco, Dallas, Los Angeles, Portland, Chicago, and Atlanta. His instructional focus spans a range of topics, from Sentencing and Direct Examination to Cross Examination and all aspects of jury trial practice. Beyond the courtroom, Robert has provided instruction for the FBI and the Board of Fraud Examiners. He has also been a featured instructor for the New York State Bar Association on trial practice.

As a testament to his commitment to legal education, Robert serves as a guest lecturer at Syracuse University College of Law. His insights have reached a broader audience through his role as a legal commentator on CourtTV and as a legal analyst and guest on the nationally broadcast radio program 'Equal Footing.' Additionally, he is a published contributor to 'Atticus Magazine' and 'Warrior,' the Trial Lawyers College Magazine.

Robert is an active member of several legal associations, including the Federal Court Bar Association of the Northern District of New York, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the New York State Bar Association. His dedication is further demonstrated by his lifetime membership in the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and their Board of Directors.

In his role as the Criminal Justice Act Representative for the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York, Robert also serves as an advisor to pro se litigants in federal courts in the Northern District for the Federal Court Bar Association of the Northern District.
